Solution to M.S. Word 2000 not opening properly

I experienced the same problem with M.S. Word 2000 after I had downloaded a number of M.S. programs and updates. Uninstalling and reinstalling Office 2000 did not help, Word wouldn't even operate correctly in Safe Mode. No other Office 2000 programs were adversely affected. I also have Office 2007 available on the same computer, this still worked O.K., including Word 2007 (I still prefer Word 2000, it's quicker to use).

In desperation I uninstalled every program and update that I had installed that day (I don't have a list of them all), also Office 2000 yet again. After closing down and rebooting I re-installed Office 2000 once more, closed down and rebooted again. This time Word 2000 worked O.K. I don't know which installation or update caused the problem, so if I reinstall any of them, I will do an immediate check on Word 2000!

Uninstalling & reinstalling Office 2000 is unlikely to achieve anything that a repair of the current installation won't achieve. And, since you've got Office 2007 installed, you really should have reinstalled Office 2007 after reinstalling Office 2000.

Further, indiscriminantly uninstalling updates, whilst it might get you back to a working installation, leaves your system vulnerable to whatever flaws the updates were meant to address. I suggest re-examining those updates. If one of them was for Office Live, then be aware that app is incompatible with Word 2000 and prevents the latter from running. You should be able to re-install any other updates.
