Solarwinds TFTP error on copy command

I have a number of Cisco 2651 routers for which I want to have a backup of the config. I have installed Solarwinds tftp server on my laptop. I have started a hyper terminal session to the router. When I issue the command: copy run tftp: and then supply the IP of the tftp server and a file name, I get a failure. Every time it times out trying to open the destination file. I am able to ping the server from the router and vice versa. I set the laptop IP to the same subnet as the router, but that doesn't seem to matter. Funny thing is I got it to work on an offline practice router, but I can't duplicate it. The error says, "Unable to open 172.15.25.5\filename" <Timed out>. What is the problem? Thanks.

Did you have a firewall (windows firewall?) on your laptop that needs to allow tftp? If I remember right the server also needs to allow incoming connections. Check out the settings of the tftp server? Just a couple options to check.

You may have to create the empty file in the correct folder in order for it to have something to write to , at least it works that way on a unix tftp server.

Does the Solarwinds TFTP server display that the router is trying to connect?

I always as a habbit tell my routers which interface/ip address to use as the source IP address when talking to tftp servers incase it uses a non routable interface/address

I.E
ROUTER-A(config)#ip tftp source-interface fastEthernet 0/1

Make sure that

A.The file is in the same directory as the set directory in the tftp server
B.You spell the filename WITh the extension EXACTLY as it is...case sensitive. The best way to do this is to right-click on the file, properties, copy and paste the file name. Oh, wait---you're using HyperSucks...
C.Try Tera Term or PuTTy (both free).

These are all common mistakes, and I am willing to bet a C2610 router that one of these is the problem...
