What I am attempting to accomplish

My ultimate goal is to run Windows Vista as a virtual machine inside Solaris. I have a Toshiba laptop. Details of my toshiba are below the issue.

I am a novice and installed Solaris and if a DVD is placed in the player the DVD shows up on the desktop, all function seem to work properly in Solaris.

Attempt to install OS from Disk to VirtualBox

Then I installed VirtualBox and followed the wizard for installing Windows Vista and when it gets to the choose location there is:

Host Drive DVD-RAM UJ850S (c8t0d0s2)

or the ability to load from a CD/DVD Image.

When I do choose the
Host Drive DVD-RAM UJ850S (c8t0d0s2) the DVD drive does not even attempt to spin up and

Resulting Error Code

here is the resulting error code

Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Windows Vista.
GMMR0AllocatePages failed to allocate 1 pages (VERR_NOT_SUPPORTED).
Unknown error creating VM (VERR_NOT_SUPPORTED).

Result Code:
NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Component:
Console
Interface:
IConsole {6375231a-c17c-464b-92cb-ae9e128d71c3}

Attempted to Create ISO of Windows Vista in Solaris

I do not have an ISO of the DVD and have also tried to create one using the Create CD-ROM ISO image with dd command:
# dd if=/dev/cdrom of=/tmp/cdimg1.iso
Where,
* if=/dev/cdrom: Read from /dev/cdrom (raw format)
* of=/tmp/cdimg1.iso: write to FILE cdimg1.iso i.e. create an ISO image

Result of ISO creation from DVD attempt

Result - Nothing happens. The DVD drive does not do anything. It seems as if the DVD is not working properly in Solaris even though when I put a disk in it does show up on the desktop.

Possible Unusual Terminal Behvior

One thing to note that I think may be unusual is when I open a terminal window here is what shows:

Sun Microsystems Inc. SunOS 5.11 snv_111b November 2008
AndySky@opensolaris:~$

I thought the AndySky@opensolaris: is a little unusual, instead of just a prompt. Is that normal?

Thanks in Advance to anyone who can help

I really want to get this to work since I will be making multiple virutal machines on my laptop but maybe there is something I did incorrectly on the initial Solaris install. Not sure, but please help. Thanks, Andy

Just out of curiosity, when the disk shows on the desktop, is it mounted? If so, using what options? You can see from the relevant entry in mount -v output.

Have you tried creating the .ISO image in another system, Win32 or Linux perhaps? Perhaps Microsoft have managed to make that difficult to do...
