In order to free up inodes I have deleted approx 100,000 files.
To free up the inodes do I need to unmount and mount the file syste,?

Filesystem iused ifree %iused Mounted on
/dev/md/dsk/d4 2428603 5 100% /zones

On Solaris 8, I have just created 1000 files in /var/tmp and saw the number of inodes increase (df -k -oi /var). Then deleted the files again and the number of inodes returned to its original value.

So ordinarily, I would say not. However, you could try logging out and back in again, first. Then perhaps the umount & mount commands.

I hope that helps.

Mike
