Hello, I am using Solaris 8 on a Space system. Are there any general rules when setting the /etc/system settings?

One parameter I uncertain of is page file settings. In NT I would use RAM + 12. For Win2k RAM x 2 is often used. Which param controls the page file in Solaris?

Thanks very much for your advice,

Michael

What you are referring to as a 'page file' is called 'swap space' in Solaris/UNIX. You can dynamically add and remove swap space using the swap command while the system is running. Typically you would allocate approximately the same as your system memory, but it depends very much on your applications' memory requirements. Annihilannic.
