What is Sun’s recommendation about patch management
on Sun boxes (sol10,9 and 8).
How admins are doing it in the market (companies)

I was never a friend of having the latest patch releases on the machines. As long as your Sun is not the Firewall you can wait a few weeks/month. If you use pacthbundles (Recommended Patches) there are always patches included, which need a reboot. depending on your SLA, your "customer" might not be happy to have weekly reboots...
I used to run patchupdates about one a year; I used to install recommended patches
My new company uses hpux and our hp support contact recommends 2 patchsessions a year.
