I am testing the connection of a solaris 10 x86 server
to a SAN, I am in need of patch 120223-29 for HBA
compatibility but I don't know how I can get it.
Any help ?
Any software support contract (including the cheapest support contract Sun offers) gets access to any and all Sun patches, at least prior to the Oracle acquisition of Sun. It is a violation of the contract terms to provide the patches to someone who doesn't have a contract.
FYI - that particular patch release has already been superseded by a newer version. Older patch versions are still available on the sunsolve web page.
I don't think that's 100% true... I've never (personally) had a Sun Support contract and I can download patches to my Solaris x86 VM using the built-in patch manager, e.g. smpatch update -i 120223-29 should do it?
I know that lacking a support contract means you can no longer access their manual patch download sites though.
you can only get basic security patches without a valid contract tied to your sunsolve account. I have went years on end with out running into issues.
when using a patchmanager,
That is true that you will get a basic set of patches from smpatch or other patch managers without a contract, but if you have a contract tied to the host when registering it for use in smpatch than it will download much more.
I guess what I mean in the beginning about going many years without problems is, I have had a contract tied to my sunsolve account since '98. it was an account from one company, but after I left there, it was still valid for years. The one thing Sun is terrible at is keeping track of is who should and should not have access. In a way it is up to the company who bought the contracted services from Sun to update their list of personnel who should have access. This gets overlooked alot of times.
Only in the last year, I actually updated my contracts in my sunsolve profile to reflect my current employer.
It's already noticable, I work in the higher education field. We use to get sun discounted pricing on all hardware, somewhere around 30% below the price it would resale for. The day oracle took the keys to the kingdom, that practice was discontinued. There is no longer educational pricing as far as I have been told
