Hi guys,

Just wondering whether I can install solaris package installer version without using root access?

Because I have to ask to 3rd party company which is our IT support company to do that for me if I need root access.

The Solaris package installer should always be installeed on Solaris already, why would you need to install it? Or are you talking about another operating system?

Yeah, I'm talking about solaris OS.

I need to install software from outside but its package using solaris package installer. Normally we receive tar file, but now the manufacturer send me solaris package. They reckon it's much better instead of tar file.

Cheers,

Okay, I think I understand the question now... yes you will have to ask your IT support company to install the package.

You can manually unpack the package using pkgtrans but then it probably wouldn't be a 'supported' installation.
