Hello there,

I work in a realm of limited HP-UX, which also happens to be going away and is being replaced by Solaris. I plan on convincing my company to purchase me a larger hard drive for my laptop (only 10G now) so that I can dual-boot Win 2k and a linux flavor. The linux will be an aid in training for the real Unix environment, file structure, basic commands and so forth.

Is there also a good deal of similarities between Solaris/Linux/HP-UX? I know some commands may be different, but working with the kernel and shells and so forth would be about the same correct?

Thanks. Sean.

No, there are a lot of differences! Check out this link for a side-by-side comparison...

I would suggest that instead of Linux, you get a copy of Solaris for Intel. You can dual boot Solaris and Windows 2000. Last I looked, Solaris/Intel was about $100 on Sun's web site.
