Solaris DNS garbled characters

Has anyone seen in Solaris DNS where when the lookup of the IP returns it is garbaged characters. Seems to be when there is no entry in DNS for the IP it will sometimes return total garbage or non-ASCII characters.

Even more so when the primary DNS doesn't have an entry and pushes it to another DNS server. We don't see this with a host file.
