Hi, I have a Portmaster 3 that I am trying to setup a console on so that I can set up the ethernet settings. I originally tried setting it up using Hyperterm on a windows box, but I couldn't get that to work (I have the dip switches setup right on portmaster). I currently have the portmaster setup on my rack and I am trying to access it in command line on a solaris box but I can't seem to get the commands right (mostly I tried just variations on the tip command)... The portmaster is connected to the box in the "B" port.
thanks in advance.

tip is configured in /etc/remote file. The device for port "b" under dialers::dv=/dev/cua/b:

That is how my /etc/remote is configured. So now to access the device plugged into that port do I type "tip dialers"? I tried that and I get a message "all ports busy". I also tried "tip hardwire" with that line configured in /etc/remote as:

hardwire: :dv=/dev/term/b:br#9600:el=^C^S^Q^U^D:ie=%$:eek:e=^D:

and I get:

tip: /dev/term/b: Permission denied
all ports busy

I am logged in as root, btw.

I have found that if you use a port and don't disconnect it properly when done it will report that it is busy if you try to use it again. The only way I have found to get around a busy port is to reboot the machine. Not exactly my favorite answer to give, but if it is possible to do it might be worth trying.

In /etc/remote you should have lines like:
cuab:/dev/cua/b:br#9600

<The system name>: :dv=/dev/term/b:br#9600:el=^C^S^Q^U^D:ie=%$:eek:e=^D:

dialers: :dv=/dev/cua/b:

Then if you use tip <syustem name>
it should get to the other system.
