How can I create a new login account? I'm sitting at a # prompt adn basically all I know are Avaya CMS commands, however I do not want to log in as root.

Also what is the command to change the root password?

Much thanks for any help!

man useradd
man passwd

Hope This Helps, PH.

Just curious, but do you relize that your subject for this problem makes no sense? "Solaris 9 running SunOS 5.8"
Solaris 9 = SunOS 5.9

Solaris 8 = SunOS 5.8

Not that it changes the answer to your questions...

If you make your new user account part of group 14 (sysadmin) you can also have a little more privledges.

spamly - I didn't realize I put two diffent OSs. There's my air gap of the day!

There are so many darn option just using the "man useradd" command. Can someone give me a command string that's more specifc, possible usign group 14 as well?

Thanks!

useradd -u 1000 -g 14 -d /home/dir -s /bin/sh -c "Joe User" -m -k /etc/skel username

-u = User ID
-g = Group ID
-d = Home Directory
-s = Login Shell
-c = GECOS "comments"
-m = Make home directory if not exist
-k = Default login files
