We have a SUN server a V240 running Solaris 9 with a few appliactions installed. Within the company there is a big push towards virtualisation and because Solaris 10 X86 is now supported by VMware, I have been tasked with lnvestigating the possibility of replacing SUN servers with Vitual servers. Assumming that the applications on the UNIX server are compatabile with Solaris 10, is it possible to create a Virtual Solaris 10 X86 image and run the applications on this image?
Because the VMware software acts as a proxy to the underlying physical hardware I am assumming that the Solaris 10 X86 OS allows for the running of UNIX applications. Is that correct or am I totally off the mark?
