Solaris 8 question

well 04/01 with _all_ the patches comes to something resembling 8 07/01 ... but you very rarely have _all_ the patches, just the recommended ones. and most of them you can only get/find out about if you pay sunsolve money 
07/01 had a whole load of improvements, including fixing the problem with dell computers/others when there were free memory slots ... it also had a lot more video drivers and a lot more device drivers added.
you should be able to 'upgrade' from 04/01 to 07/01 ... but it might want more space in /usr, upgrades always take up more space than fresh install
if you have to choice in installing, install 07/01
if you don't have the choice don't worry
