Solaris 8 problem: The IDPROM contents are invalid

I have a stand alone UltraSparc-1 runing Solaris 8. Due to abnomal turn on/off the machine, I can no longer turn on the machine any more. The error message is:

The IDPROM contents are invalid

Can someone please tell me how to fix the problem without touch $HOME? Many thanks!

can you boot the machine from cdrom or net?

i have the same problem. Could you please lead me to a local (Munich) supplier where i gan get such piece of hardware? - Results on internet search are very frustrating.
