Hey guys,

My solaris 5.8 machine has the ypserver configured and it's gonna cause problems on my network. I want the machine to stay an NIS client. How can I turn off the ypserv server but keep the machine an NIS client?

Thanks.

Try this as root.

ypstop // Stop YP Service
ypinit -c // Initialize YP Client Services

Enter the name of the NIS server you are going to use

Modify /etc/inet/hosts and add the NIS server name and IP Address

Copy /etc/nsswitch.nis to /etc/nsswitch.conf

You may have to modify the /etc/auto_home file to remove any automounts listed. The only entry need on an NIS client is +auto_home

Also if you have entries in /etc/passwd /etc/group /etc/netgroup, comment out NIS entries.
