I installed the SFWgtextS package from the Companion disc for the md5 checksum tool. I need to run it on 2 very large files; 20GB and 80GB respectively.

When I run:

md5sum filename

it returns "value too large for deinfed data type".

Any ideas on how to correct this, or a suggestion for a better tool?

Perhaps obtain the source and compile it yourself, making sure any large file and/or 64-bit options are enabled?

Does it also complain if you run it using a pipeline (e.g. md5sum < filename?

Annihilannic.
