HI
While configuring NIS client I am facing following
problem.

# ypinit -c
Can't get local host's domain name. Please check your
path.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Does the domainname command work? What is your PATH variable set to?

Annihilannic.

Hi
Domaniname command works.
PATH is also set.

Andy

Yes, but what value is it set to? Can you post the output of echo $PATH?

Also, what does domainname display, the correct name for your NIS domain?

Annihilannic.

hope u have prepared your client properly. just check this list in sequence

1. Use the domainname command to set the domain name.
2. Update the /etc/nsswitch.conf file to use NIS either by copying the
/etc/nsswitch.nis template file to it or by manually editing the
appropriate configuration.
3. Log into the system as the root account and run "ypinit -c"
4. The ypinit command will prompt for one or more NIS servers. give the nis master server name.
5. also check whether required daemons are running in both server and client.

HI

I have done all the steps.
If a run ypwhich it shows name of NIS master server
instead of slave server.

Thks

Andy
