Hello everyone!

I am actually an HPUX guy that is stuck with a SUN DR problem.

I have 2 - E450 servers (identically configured) running Solaris 2.8.

I want 1 of the units to be a hot spare for DR purposes.

In the HPUX world, I can copy the .kernel file from one server to another (if identically configured) and bring the spare system up as the failed server.

I need to know if this is possible with SUN....

If so, which files do I need to copy to do this????

I appreciate any assistance anyone can provide!

Thanks!

Greg

Hi,

What's the .kernel file ? Unix kernel or kernel parameters ?
On Solaris, you don't rebuild kernel, you can dynamically alter it with /etc/system text file (to enable shared memory for Oracle and so on ...).

If you want machines to match exactly:
1) whenever you make a change on one server, you do the same on the other (this can be worthy if system parameters don't change every 2 hours and you have only 2 servers !). And data ? :(
2) you periodically refresh the 2nd server with a backup of the first (I've posted a thread called "Bootable backup" in this forum because I have the same concern)
