I am planning on upgrading my Solaris 8 boxes to Solaris 10. In your experiance, is their anything that I should look out for our take into consideration. I hope this would be seemless to any applications that I have loaded. Thanks for any comments or suggestions.

This isn't just my opinion. I think I am quoting an instructor from one of my certification classes. Back up your data. Stay away from upgrading and do an Initial install. I was told this years ago and can not remember the reasons the instructor gave for this advice. Regardless to you listening to this advice, back up your data before you start anything.

I just talked with some colleagues, and they suggested a fresh install as well. They have never been able to upgrade and keep apps functional...

Blue,

I have upgraded over 30 servers with only a couple of issues around patches and possible duplicate entries in /etc/nsswitch.conf.
Another thing to look out for is the bge NIC settings.
Worth checking these out in bge.conf prior to handing the system back.

If you have SDS mirrored disks and /, /usr and /var are on separate filesystems the live upgrade procedure handles the dettaching and preservation pretty well.

The whole process takes around two hours.

Of course this is only my opinion, but I have done it successfully a number of times.

Good luck.
