Solaris 10 : Network setup issues

Hi All,
I would greatly appreciate if someone could guide me to setup
internet on solaris 10:

My Network
===========
a) I have 3 PC's ( 2 windows, 1 solaris (which iam setting up now))

b) I have a linksys router which routes my broadband
connection, before setting up solaris i had windows in it through
which i already configured my router.

c) windows PC now can already connect to internet.

Network setting currently done (on solaris)
===========================================
a) I have assigned an ip address for solaris machine

b) I tried to locate NIC number, i wasnt sure which to choose from
device/master file so i tried both
i) swpr.0
ii) elxl.0

c) both failed with error FAILED TO PLUMB swpr/elxl interface
( i have changed netmask ,and also named hostname.swpr0 /
hostname.elxl0 )

d) ifconfig -a does not show interface either swpr0 or elxl0


i have stuck here , not sure how to proceed further, how to detect
which is the correct network card, also do i have to do anything
with my LINKSYS router, i have not istalled it on solaris
( the CD i have is only windows version software )

Kindly suggest.

Hi Abdul,

I assume that you are setting up an x86 machine with Solaris 10.

Have you got a compatible network card installed on your x86 machine?

Hi All,

i have detected my network card as e1000go

(onboard LAN)
Mother board : Magic Pro
On board lan : Intel PRO/1000

luckily i got the driver CD for PRO/1000 for Solaris on X86

i have added the required drivers using pkgadd

and have changed my hosts file
also named under /etc/hostname.e1000g0

however when i give

ifconfig plumb e1000g0

it says NO INTERFACE found.

i have rebooted couple of times after pkgadd ,
i still have the same problem.

am i missing something??
