Hi,

Have an issue with a Solaris 10 SPARC box that
whenever it reboots it sets an 8 bit mask instead of
a 16 bit as specified in /etc/netmasks

Is there a config file I'm missing somewhere that's over riding /etc/netmasks?

Do I need to use sys-unconfig?

Thanks

what does your netmask in /etc/netmasks look like?

also,

take a look at the following file, I have had these give me problems every once in a while.

/etc/inet/netmasks (in theory, it is suppose to get what ever is assigned to /etc/netmasks, BUT every once in a while it has a hiccup and does not do like it is suppose to.)

I have had this happen for /etc/inet/hosts too after making a change to /etc/hosts

David

Thanks for the response.

I did think to look at /etc/inet/netmasks and it looks good, meaning identical as it should. I've the same issue before with hosts as well.

entry is:

10.2.234.0 255.255.0.0

I was thinking with the range that maybe I need to specify the host as well in netmasks?

nsswitch.conf showing files first for "netmask" ?

you should not need to specify the host in the netmasks file.

is your defaultrouter set correctly? /etc/defaultrouter

I know this probably is not the issue, but..just throwing idears out ...

you may look at you /etc/hostname.###

make sure it is setup correctly, if it is not, It can affect how it brings up the interface after reboot

Looks ok to me:

netmasks: files

defaultrouter looks good but a different net than the host

host 10.2.234.0
defaultrouter 10.2.240.x

hmm, shouldn't it be on the same network as the host. I've never seen that before...interesting

Trying to remember way back to class....

I think since it's masked as /16 bit it is on the same net.

Still looking. I know the "correct" way to make changes to Networking items such as netmask, should be done with the sys-unconfig command. Still don't know what possible other files that command would touch but I may try it. Problem is that it's at a remote client site and not sure if it's hooked to a console....

The entry in /etc/netmasks should read:

Code:
10.2.0.0 255.255.0.0
