Hi All,
I greatly appreciate if anyone could show some light
on this issue.

Things i have done (in chronological order)
------------------

1. Downloaded Solaris 10 from sun ( CD format 4 CD's)

2. I have booted and installed solaris using CD #1
(boot), Though setup detected my display card and had
1024 * 728 but for some reasons the GUI mode of
installation didn't occur ( i chose choice 1
interactive, this isn't a real problem though)

2. Successfully installed first CD

3. Problem : Now system reboots , i made sure to
remove CD#1 , and inserted CD#2 however when system
rebooted i had following error

a) cannot set locale correctly ( i set English(US))
b) sendMail error :
sendmail[nnn]: unqualified host name (solarisi)
unknown; sleeping for retry

for 3.b i have tried to edit hosts file and set
a dummy one e.g solarisi.foo.bar but this didn't
work

4. Biggest Problem : After installation of CD#1
system reboots and with sendmail and locale error
when i click enter it prompts for password
i enter root and root password

strange thing now is it goes to prompt # (root)
where i can access the directories and files

now my question are
===================
a) why system is not prompting for CD#2 after i
enter root password ???
b) how to install CD #2 , CD #3 , CD #4 ??

c) without fixing the sendmail error is it not
possible to proceed further to setup other cd's??

I greatly appreciate if anyone can help on this,

Thanks a ton,
Abdul Aleem

I believe you can fix the sendmail error (which is only minor) by changing /etc/hosts from:

[tt]1.2.3.4 solarisi loghost[/tt]

to:

[tt]1.2.3.4 solarisi loghost solarisi.[/tt]

Alternatively you can use the correct FQDN for your organisation, if there is one, e.g. solarisi.blah.com.

Can you include the exact locale errors? What problems are they causing for you?

Hi All,
I greatly appreciate any help on this,
i have successfully installed solaris 10 (DVD) ,
i had setup screens in GUI mode, and it went well

but after reboot , it complains

***************************************
Starting Desktop login on display: 0

wait for desktop login screen before loggin in.

The X-Server can not be started on display:0

***************************************

i checked /var/dt/Xerrors

it displays "fatal server error: could not open
default font 'fixed' "

and in /var/log/Xorg.0.log

it gives warning 'fonts-dir' not found or no valid
in /usr/X11/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType/

how to solve this error?

thanks a ton,
Abdul

Does that directory exist? Does it contain anything? If not you will probably have to manually install it from the CD using pkgadd. Unfortunately I can't tell you what package to install because I don't use Solaris 10, and since it appears to use Xorg it would be different to previous versions.
