Hello Everyone,

I recently installed Solaris 10 on my new T2000 and I'm trying to clean-up the unecessary crap. First, I disable sendmail. That was easy. However, /etc/vfstab is a little messy. Can I remove these entries below?

/devices - /devices devfs - no -
ctfs - /system/contract ctfs - no -
objfs - /system/object objfs - no -

Plus when I do a df -k, the output is also messy. Please see below:

# df -k
Filesystem kbytes used avail capacity Mounted on
/dev/dsk/c1t0d0s0 1988623 118282 1810683 7% /
/devices 0 0 0 0% /devices
ctfs 0 0 0 0% /system/contract
proc 0 0 0 0% /proc
mnttab 0 0 0 0% /etc/mnttab
swap 7468224 1040 7467184 1% /etc/svc/volatile
objfs 0 0 0 0% /system/object
/dev/dsk/c1t0d0s6 4038414 3298134 699896 83% /usr
/platform/SUNW,Sun-Fire-T200/lib/libc_psr/libc_psr_hwcap1.so.1
1988623 118282 1810683 7% /platform/sun4v/lib/libc_psr.so.1
/platform/SUNW,Sun-Fire-T200/lib/sparcv9/libc_psr/libc_psr_hwcap1.so.1
1988623 118282 1810683 7% /platform/sun4v/lib/sparcv9/libc_psr.so.1
fd 0 0 0 0% /dev/fd
/dev/dsk/c1t0d0s3 1988623 62201 1866764 4% /var
swap 7467192 8 7467184 1% /tmp
swap 7467224 40 7467184 1% /var/run
/dev/dsk/c1t0d0s5 4038414 1446393 2551637 37% /opt
/dev/dsk/c1t0d0s4 23079 1041 19731 6% /unassigned
/dev/dsk/c1t0d0s7 57741397 57273 57106711 1% /export/home

How do I clean this up?

Thank you in advance.

You don't want to remove /objfs /ctfs /devices.

The only ones that *I think* should go (and that is because I haven't been on a T2000) is the .so lines. I cannot imagine why libraries would be mounted. I would remove those lines from /etc/vfstab (make a copy of it first) and then reboot.

If it doesn't come back, then just reboot and move the backup into place and then call Sun and ask them if that is an option.

Thank you for the reply khz.

I don't know why the libraries are mounted as such. I don't see that entry on my vfstab. Please see below:

# more /etc/vfstab
#device device mount FS fsck mount mount
#to mount to fsck point type pass at boot options
#
fd - /dev/fd fd - no -
/proc - /proc proc - no -
/dev/dsk/c1t0d0s1 - - swap - no -
/dev/dsk/c1t0d0s0 /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0s0 / ufs 1 no -
/dev/dsk/c1t0d0s6 /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0s6 /usr ufs 1 no -
/dev/dsk/c1t0d0s3 /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0s3 /var ufs 1 no -
/dev/dsk/c1t0d0s7 /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0s7 /export/home ufs 2 yes -
/dev/dsk/c1t0d0s5 /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0s5 /opt ufs 2 yes -
/devices - /devices devfs - no -
ctfs - /system/contract ctfs - no -
objfs - /system/object objfs - no -
swap - /tmp tmpfs - yes -

our t2000 are the same way

I am guessing it has to do with S10 and the platform 'sun4v' because other S10 boxes such as 'sun4u' do not have the same output.

thank you for the post djr111.

i know it's not a big deal, but it would be nice if vfstab and df -k output is a little cleaner.

Some (brief) info about it here:

This is how it looks on a VMware machine:

[tt]Filesystem kbytes used avail capacity Mounted on
/dev/dsk/c1t0d0s0 5717526 3776884 1883467 67% /
/devices 0 0 0 0% /devices
ctfs 0 0 0 0% /system/contract
proc 0 0 0 0% /proc
mnttab 0 0 0 0% /etc/mnttab
swap 701228 648 700580 1% /etc/svc/volatile
objfs 0 0 0 0% /system/object
/usr/lib/libc/libc_hwcap2.so.1
5717526 3776884 1883467 67% /lib/libc.so.1
fd 0 0 0 0% /dev/fd
swap 700616 36 700580 1% /tmp
swap 700612 32 700580 1% /var/run
/dev/dsk/c1t0d0s7 1986159 130788 1795787 7% /export/home[/tt]

I get the impression that unmounting it wouldn't do any harm, but would probably impact performance, probably disabling any hardware specific capabilities?

Annihilannic.
