I have little Router and Firewall for small office experience and was hoping someone may be able to tell me if most small offices get by with just a router or do most also use a hardware firewall too?
The office I'm working for has a small NetGear DSL router and I'm pretty sure it can be configured to filter packets but I'm not sure if its full featured enough for todays needs?

Well generally yes, a firewall is so important.

NAT and a good list of rules are what you want to aim for. The rules we use here allow nothing in and only the essential services out.
