Can anyone tell me which is more secure/fast? Software or Hardware-based VPN? Why?

Thanks

Of course a hardware VPN will be more secure, when you compare like protocol to like protocol..

such as:
Software IPSec VPN
Hardware IPSec VPN

Hardware will be more secure, as you aren't exposing an internal server to the public internet.

Now which one is faster is soly dependant on the hardware in the machine vs. the speed of the hardware vpn machine you are testing.

The speed issue ranges amond Hardware VPNs as much as it does software.

Unless you can't afford to spend the money for a hardware VPN, then of course it isn't the best option.

the cheapest would be the windows server which is included with the OS.

Most companies love this, as it requires absolutely no money to invest into. And with the breaking of Crypto technology, PPTP and L2TP aren't to far behind again.
