We Have a Option11 system using 24 for the version of the software with two open Stations, and the need to add 6 stations, so I went and set the "paperwork" wheels in Motion to get the $5K+ upgrade for another 100 stations, Now the Vendor Says that they don't support/do any upgrades on 24, and Now the Vendor says Nortel is doing licensing in multiples of 16, so they now they look at how many cards are in the system and the current verison version 4, the system is approximately 2 years old
anyone else running into simular problem ? and what did it end up costing

i have found out that the cost of lic for the newer stuff will be a pretty stiff increase but don't get involved on the $ side. i am surprised to find out nortel will not sell tn's to a rls that recent.. i added tn's to a rls 22 not 6 months ago.. we just went to 3.0 and will be needing a lic upgrade before the end of the year

here's a slight Update on the upgrade, Now they are saying based on the Hardware for version 4, we are looking at approx $12K

I have run into this myself. The reason being is that they want everyone on Succession Software. I had a customer that had no TN's left and they needed to add another card and Nortel would not sell the TN's unless they upgraded to Succession.

I think you will find this with all upgrades at this point, to systems not on the Successon platform.

my software upgrade was almost a giveaway, less then 5k for a full blown 81... didn't buy any add pkg's or lic with it.

We just installed the last upgrade on the newest of our 5 switches. Our oldest release was 23.15 & cost $23K to upgrade. Our newest release (and worst) was 25.40B & cost about $1100 to upgrade. Go figure... We were told that if we didn't do the upgrades, we couldn't buy any new TNs in the future.

sanysidro who did you get your upgrade from? The reason I asked is because I'm running RLS 23 also and I just got a quote for 29k.

Hawks

Here's the breakdown on my Option 11C 23.18 upgrade from my vendor:

SW UPGD TO CUR LIKE FOR LIKE $9,945 (we had 400 TNs at the time)
OP11C PROG PCMCIA R3.0 NA/CALA $481
OPTION 11C 48MB SOFTWWARE D-BOAR $678 (a new daughterboard for the processor that would support the upgrade)
SSC UPGRADE KIT $393
CABINET UPGRADE KIT $835 (we have 2 cabs on this switch)
SUCCESSION ADVANTAGE PROGRAM $925*
LABOR $850 (VERY Well spent; our tech was here for 3.5 hours after 5 PM)

By the way - I forgot to mention in my earlier posting that the total of $23K included an addional upgrade of one of my other switches that was running 23.25

According to our vendor, Nortel insisted that the upgrade be ordered prior to 4/2004 to get this pricing. Last I heard, they had extended that deadline, but I can't swear on that.

My vendor operates here in Colorado, but often goes as far north as Cheyenne Wyoming. If you're outside of that area, I can always contact them & see if they can give me a referral in your area. Where are you located?

Thanks, I also have Mer Mail that was going to be upgraded to Call Pilot. Here in FL.

your vendor in fla is more then likely sprint, i worked for sprint for years, not a bad outfit, bit not cheap... CP is coming down in price, if you need long term support, you may want to think twice about the cheapest price. The compamy i work for never comes lowest on price but always does great with cust satisfaction...

I agree with John

It's extremely important to have a good working relationship with the vendor meaning not just the technicians but the sales staff as well. Don't look for just anyone who can provide the product cheaply - make certain that they are willing to stand behind the software & hardware they install. Show them respect (when due) and they will return it tenfold.

another thought on this, you'll find that every tech may not be right for your account.. don't let a single bad cause a vendor change.. not every tech cares, or tries their best.. i've never had a customer for an install that wasn't glad to see me come back and treat me like one of the team
