I have an existing Norstar with PRI and 4.0 Software. I will be expanding my system to a 2nd PRI and an upgrade to 6.1 software. I know I will need to re-program, but my question is will I still have access to my existing PRI or will I lose that. If I do lose it during software upgrade, can I re-use it if I still have the keycode??

Thanks ahead of time

Keycodes will stay with ksu not software ...and why will you lose all programming????

Upgrade from 4.0 to 6.1...Can I hold programming somehow?

If you have a NAM, don't forget to upgrade it to 4.1 first.

I recently upgraded a system from 4.0 to 6.1 and all I had to do was replace the pcmcia card, it took about 15 minutes for the phones to come back up and all the programming for the system remained intact.

As long as you are simply upgrading from R4.0 or higher to a higher version your current programming will be maintained. I just went from R5 to R6.1 in my test cabinet with no loss of programming.

Beware that if you upgrade the KSU to R6.1 and then want to go back to your R4.0 for some reason, the programming will default and the serial number of the KSU will change. This will render your current PRI Enabler codes as invalid and new keycodes will have to be purchased.

Exsmogger,

You are totally correct that the serial number of the KSU can change. I have been trying to nail down the circumstances under which this will happen and I had known for sure that of you went back to a release prior to 4.0, it would always happen.

I recently found out the same thing as you. 6.1 back to 4.1 will do it as well.

Having said that, Nortel networks has a fix for this. They will issue you a regression keycode which will change the SN of the KSU back to what it used to be. You enter it just like any other keycode. That way you can reuse your old PRI and MCDN keycodes on the same box. It would be criminal to have to purchase new keycodes again.

Make sure you look at your target lines!!
I had a 4.1 > 6.1 lose the target lines.
I tried using the line renumbering tool, but it said it didn't need it and went back to menu.

Just something to think of before you pull that card out.
