hi,
i have setup SUS on a W2K server.. all works fine and sync's with windowsupdate.microsoft.com.

does anyone know the best way to get our client pc's using automatic updates to point to the internal SUS server, rather than using windowsupdate.microsoft.com ???

any help is much appreciated.
thanks
glenn

fill the the SET options from the admin page on the SUS server.
next, create a group policy and fill in the computer configuration ---> administrative templates ---> windows components ---> windows update ---> there are 4 keys to fill in here. one of them will point to the SUS server by SUS SERVER NAME...

apply this policy to the site, domain or OU and the clients will take the updates from your local server...

Thanks for the reply,
i should have pointed out that our domain is still NT4... will be AD later this year.

so, any thoughts on how to do this under NT?

thanks
glenn

if the clients are w2k, xp or 2k3 then you can hack the registry and point to the server.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate
>WUServer: >WUStatusServer: HTTP//yourservernamehere

this will point a client to the specific SUS server in a not ActiveDirectory enviroment..
the other keys in the \AU key are for setting how the updates are applied...
