I work in a school enviroment and I maintain the open labs. I have been having problems with students logging on to the machines and creating shortcuts on the desktop and moving some program files from the start menu to the desktop. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make the computer ignore these changes and retain it's orginal settings?

Is it a domain? If so, you could use roaming mandatory profiles (mandatory profiles do not save changes when logging out - so get the same profile each time you log on - but they don't affect the local 'All Users' profile). You can actually use mandatory profiles on local machines.

Alternatively, there is commerical software (eg, deepfreeze) which maintains machines as is (ie, you always boot to the same default setup - which you control).
