Does anyone know of a software to consider in order to recover the system in case of a system crash.

My company is not looking at Veritas or Legato at this point. Anyone knows of anything .

I understand there's a software called IGNITE in HP....
Anything for Solaris.

Thanks,
Sanmi

afaik there is a "bare metal restore" in Veritas NetBackup, but I don't know if it is available for Solaris.

I used to have this worst case scenario:
- "Jumpstart" system, this will install the OS and essential Backup Software
- reboot (system comes up with an unconfigured OS)
- restore last OS backups
- reboot (system comes up with your config)
- restore and recover further software

I installed Netbackup client on my jumpstart partition and would boot the machine over the network in single user mode. Then I would be able to restore all the partitions and software eliminating the need for the actual jumpstart.

The other thing is to look into Flash Images..it uses jumpstart as well, but will restore your machine to the state it was at when the image was made.
