Software installation on NT 4 server

I have a NT 4.0 server (BDC) that tells me I need to be logged in with administrator privileges to install an application. I am logged in as an admin. I tried another admin account and had the same results. So I created another administrator account and was able to install. What I am trying to figure out is what caused the original admin accounts to fail. I may just convert it to a w2k server and be done with it but was curious if anyone had a fix for this NT 4.0 problem.
