Software Compatibility with Japanese version of XP

HI Everyone,

I have a new user that has brought in a Dell laptop with a japanese version of Windows XP on it. My question is will the software that I need to install on this machine actually work?

I can't read Japanese, so that is strike one against it.
From what I have been able to dig up the user will have to get the English version of XP for all to go well. Anyone had to deal with this type of thing before?
