Softphone unable to retrieve call put hold

I have a softphone 3.23.48 that if I put a call on hold the resume button is greyed out. I upgraded it to 3.23.49 and the issue persists. Call park and unpark works. Any ideas?
windows 7 machine, there are others working fine.
