All,

I am looking for a recommendation for a Softphone H323 application that is not an Avaya brand. I would prefer a freeware version or something that has a demo I can use, but I wouldn't be opposed to buying one if it is was worth it. So, basically looking for any recommendations anyone has!

Thanks!!

Bria is a great SIP softphone that works across Android, iPhone, Windows and Mac. It will require a third party IP Endpoint license obviously, but works great.

sgrossman - Thank you for the suggestion, I was trying to find something that used the H323 protocol specifically.

Bria is what Avaya's softphone is based on, but has less integration. He may as well use Avaya video softphone :)

Why do you want to use a H.323 softphone?

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

tlpeter - That is what the boss wants. I have shown SIP softphones but he wants to try a H323 one also before making a decision on which to use.

The boss wants that?
Why does he want that?
This request must have a reason as the protocol should not matter at all as long as the softphone does what it needs to do.
I guess that this is because of existing IP endpoint (H.323) licenses but you cannot use them for anything else then Avaya H.323 hardphones.

tlpeter - I don't know the reasoning behind it, I was just told to try and find a H323 Softphone and a SIP Softphone so they could try both. I have found numerous SIP ones, but the H323 I am striking out trying to find.

I don't know any so that is why i ask why :)
Why not try the Avaya video softphone?
It uses SIP and needs a teleworker license.

Does he actually know the difference or just repeating buzz words? H323 and SIP are only different signalling protocols, they both use the exact same codecs to carry the voice, so to the end user there is no difference at all and how does the signalling going on in the background invisible to the user make a difference? It doesn't :)

Yes, my boss is well away of the protocols associated with SIP and H323. The only thing I can think he wants it for is to look at the ports and protocols it uses to be able to harden a computer running it for some DoD testing we do.
