I would like to be allow people to use the Avaya Softphone on their office phone extension when out of the office and continue to use their regular telephone set when in the office. Is it possible to do this? How would I get the Softphone to use the same extension without conflicting with the existing phone?

Thanks.

What I did in our office is I gave my 5410 an extension number of 407. My laptop is running Phone manager enabled with Voip. When I am at the office, I open phone manager and click the login and use base ext 407 (my ext is 207).

When I am at home, I have a hardware VPN back to the office open phone manager and don't check the login box or use the base extension. works great. I have my laptop set to get an IP address from the DHCP server. I do have confirm IP address checked in phone manager. That's about it. the only thing that doesn't appear to work is hot desking on my 207. It seems i can't have this too though maybe someone know how to get this to work with softphone and the situation described here.

Mobile Twinning will be available in 3.2 also. Will require a license though.

Upgrade to 3.1
Give the softphone and the hard phone different extension numbers.
Use twinning to make both extension ring at once.
User/Twinning

Twinning is only available outside the United States right now. It will however be available in 3.2 coming out in July. You will need a license for it..

Correct me if i'm wrong but I'm pretty sure the licensing will only be for external numbers.

Licencing is for Mobile twinning (that is calling an external number)
internal twinning does not require a licence, at least thats the way i understand it so far as 3.2 is still under trial anything could change

That being said, I do not believe internal twinning will be supported in the US, at least not soon.

The only one they are implementing is Mobile Twinning activated with the license.

When using a different extension # than your desk phone, you can use the follow me here feature (I think it is *12*xxx# and *13*xxx# cancels it) to take calls ringing to your desk phone, or you can hotdesk I believe.

?Doesn't agent mode log in allow this. Switch between the IP extension user used for VoIP and the desk phone. May have to also check/uncheck "Enable VoIP" in Phone Manager also but I suspect it auto disables when logged into a non-VoIP user extension.

Cant one simply change the locale on the system config for to be ENG instead of ENU?

I know I do this when I need to rebase the extension plan on new systems. If I leave it like, other than the british voice and "press hash..." in voicemail, what else changes and are there any downsides?

You could have your system locale set to ENG and each user profile set to ENU to get right prompts in voicemail. Or just copy the ENU wave files to the ENG directory also should work.
With twinning I think that if you logout your primary extension to secondary also becomes unavalible so your deskphone must still ring if you want your softphone to ring.
You can make calls from your secondary phone even if your primary isn't logged in thou.
There is also some buggs in the twinning feature on 3.1 still involving twinned users in groups that aren't gonna be solved until the september release.

I got round to trying the PhoneManager Pro PC Softphone in agent login mode - works. Login as yourself when you want softphone, login at a desk extension when you want to use the desk phone. The only issue was having to also select/deselect Enable VoIP in Phone Manager to match the current mode of usage (shame Phone Manager can't auto detect whether it associated with a non-VoIP extension).
