Hi,

We are looking to purchase a Cisco 2921 with call manager express...

We would like to have a softphone for the telephonist people and we think it could improve their work instead of a desktop phone.

It would be wonderful if we could integrate functionnality in the softphone like parking a call and paging someone in another application, or poping customers infos based on caller id...

I read document on the cisco ip communicator, but it's unclear to me if I could customize the application enough to fit my need.

Thanks

You can customize the IP Communicator just like you can a normal desktop set. Just remeber the IP communicator takes 4 DLUs to register.

Thanks for your reply...

Sorry for my ignorance, never worked with a cisco system before...

What is a DLU ? I search and it seems to be some sort of license, but... ?

Also, do you have some documentation, I searched for hours on cisco website on how to integrate an external database with the phone and I can't find anything, not even on the concept (interaction between the phone, application logic, programming language and access to database by odbc)

Thanks

DLU is something relating to Licensing Units.

For UCM, you could click System, Licensing, Licensing Unit Report. Then look for "units remaining". Every time you configure an IP Communicator phone. The units # remaining will drop. I thought IP communicator takes up 3 units instead of 4 units. Regardless, this is where you find how many unit licensing is available for your system.

Yes, IP Communicator configuration is just like a physical phones.

pndscm: Thanks, I prefer your answer :)

I was trying to figure out how many I had and was completely lost :)

I'm still looking for a softphone solution (can be 3rd party) that I could configure to have interraction with our internal db if someone knows one, let me know

Thanks

There is a company that makes an Attendant Console-like product for CME called ArcExpress. I have never used the product so I can't say how good it is but it will do as you are asking.
