Socket Servers?

Anybody know of any good socket server tutorials for PHP? I wrote one but I can seem to keep it connected. I keep getting

I'm almost absolutely new to this kind of stuff. Not php but sockets and servers.

Thanks but I still need help.

I've been to the PHP's sockets page and used the first server example with minor changes. Doesn't work for me.

Net_Socket for PEAR looks client side. Am I wrong?

I wouldn't even know where to begin with System_Socket, there's no documentation on it. I tried looking into what they did have and it didn't help much. I'd have to learn what the guy wrote in order to use it.
