Perhaps the lesson is that facebook/twitter should be viewed as public record and sensitive information not posted... to friends or otherwise. How many people do you see posting their daily activities, vacation plans etc. If I were a criminal (and I'm not) it wouldn't be hard to figure out a good time to rob their home.
 
I've seen that very principle demonstrated at security conferences. In one case, the lecturer showed how a pedophile could find a victim by noting where the child would be based upon some on line posting. I think the posting showed that the child would be alone for an hour at a certain place at a certain time.
