how do i check how many processors I have and how fast they are running. I tried top but it shows only the utilisation. i am running Solaris 8

Hi,

If you run "/usr/platform/sun4u/sbin/prtdiag -v" not only will it tell you how many processors you and how fast they are running but it will give you lots of other useful information.

Thanks

Is there anyway also that I can tell how many processors it can actually take, its an E250 and the processor line of the prtdiag says this

brd=SYS
CPU=0
Module=0
Run Mhz=248
ecache MB=1.0
CPU Impl=US-II
CPU Mask=2.0

Do you know whether this box would have the ability to accept another processor and if so what would be the best processor I could get for this box. I will post the full prtdiag if needed

cheers

The E250 can take up to two peocessors. As far as which processor you should get, you do not have a choice since the E250 architecture does support different CPU's. All you have to do is find which processor you have and buy a second one (refurbished from SUN are much cheaper). You can get the CPU speed with prtdiag Too bad I.T. is not cash business
