Snort not snorting

So I set up snort and base with this guide:

And I have had it running for a couple of days now, but I have no alerts when I look at base.

Is this normal? Or do I have to do something for it to work right?

And also, snort is running on my ubuntu desktop

First thing you should look are the rules. Take a look at your snort.conf file, and work on the rule base.

Then I would take a look at how snort is "exporting" the rules into your database. Make sure all the passwords and stuff are good.
