snmpd ??

On more than one occasion, this daemon has started to 'log' very quickly (fills my /var filesystem entirely within 10 minutes)....

The only way I have managed to cure the problem is to bounce the system. Can anybody give me more information as to what the daemon does and how to control its logging ???

I have issued the stopsrc -s snmpd command and retarted it.. but the logging continues..!!!! Help!

snmpd : Simple Network Monitoring Protocol

If you run HP Openview, CA Unicenter, Tivoli or some other network monitoring software, you might need snmp. If not, you can turn it off with no problem.

Ask your network folks if they are running any snmp monitoring software. If not, I suggest that you might be able to turn it off.
