Hi, trying to setup my s8700 for snmp traps
already check on the web configuration but it does not give me lot of information
what i want is to snmp every alarm on the media server displays on my monitoring tool
i need to know when a major or minor alarm is raised right away, i think snmp is the right solution if not, anything that can help will be great

s8700

g600
thanks

I use ASA and schedule it to poll the server every 30 minutes for minor and major alarms. If something comes up, I get emailed on my BlackBerry. You can set it for your own time intervals and alarms.

In the future everything will work...

I have SNMP Traps enabled on my S8300 I have both SNMP Version 1 and 2C enabled. I put the community names in and then specified the IP address of the destination SNMP "catchers". Works ok BUT (a Big But) the is only for the server side of the house. I have noticed that trunks down don't issue SNMP traps. Therefore the ASA method that NX01 stated is necessary as well.

Hope this helps

The catchers are Whatsup Professional and Netview 6000.

Hope this helps.

In order for ASA to send you emails, do you have to have ASA open? I have scheduled reports, but I believe it will only run if ASA is actually open. (Or I may have this mixed up??) Does anyone have clarification? I would like to proactively monitor every couple minutes or so for alarms or trunks down.

Thanks

ASA must be running. I use an old PC for this. Just get any old P2 machine (or whatever you have) load ASA. Set it up to monitor alarms and trunks every X minutes. I have been using this setup for a whiel now. This combined with a blackberry will prevent you from strolling in late on Monday morning to discover that there is a major alarm or down trunk.

One other thing to note is not only does ASA need to be running, but you must also be sure not to have a GEDI window open when you walk away. This will "block" the scheduled checks to run until the window is closed.

I have a Tip that I use. I have 2 connections to my G3. One uses the Clan board and the other uses a Data module. I use the Clan connection for MAC's and stuff. The Data module is used only for trunk monitor and performance reports. This way if I leave a terminal window or GEDI up the data module will continue to report the performance stuff.

I know I know Suspenders and a belt
