Hi,

I have a network with 50 baystack 450
and 2 passport 8000.

I am using device manager to configure the devices.
And I am looking for a tool that can receive traps
and trigger an email alert (or send a sms)
Have found some tools, but I don´t know how to import nortel MIBS, so that an unexperienced userd can
understand the alerts.

What tools are you using with your nortel units?

greetz,

I use the excellent Net-SNMP for this kind of thing:
You can pipe output from its trap collector to a text file that is reasonable easy to understand. Importing MIB files in net-snmp is as easy as copying them into the application's MIB directory.

I've also built web based mib browsers and interface viewers using their package, all of which was pretty straight forward.

Cheers,

Hi,

thanks for this information,
I will try it as soon as possible.

If you are willing to set up a linux box to host it, you may have some success with JFFNMS (jffnms.org). There is a greater commitment of time but the flexibility in reporting is more impressive.

Just For Fun NMS (jffnms) is a good freeware.. like paklids say..

You can also use nagios, but the config file is a mess !

For Nortel boxes: Java Device Manager(JDM;Optivity Switch Manager(OSM)& Optivity.
