Can SNMP travel over through a VPN?

Simple question, many opinions. I need a definite answer.

Basically, i need a remote management solution for wireless switches that are distant from my office. We are connected to this client with a VPN and the switches offer SNMP management but many people said it couldn't be done.

I need a professional's advice,

Thanks to all for their help,

Simon

did those many people also told you why not?
SNMP travels using normal IP packets with the UDP transport layer protocol using port 161 and 162, so it has no problem traveling over a VPN. If you have a L2TP tunnel based VPN, anything can travel over it.

Our company has a lot of remote sites and home offices and we use a lot of VPN's to connect them to the main sites. we use a host monitoring system, based on IP and SNMP and have no problems of what so ever with SNMP traveling over the VPN's.

Robert
