can anyone tell me why snmpwalk works and snmpget bombs? any help appreciated, new to this if you could'n tell : )

tftp1 10:40:16 /usr/local/share/snmp/mibs $ snmpget snva-1-usersw1 mystring .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.8
Error in packet
Reason: (noSuchName) There is no such variable name in this MIB.
This name doesn't exist: enterprises.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.8

tftp1 10:40:35 /usr/local/share/snmp/mibs $ snmpwalk snva-1-usersw1 mystring .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.8
enterprises.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.8.1 = Gauge: 26
tftp1 10:40:44 /usr/local/share/snmp/mibs $

an snmpwalk on .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.8 will return all the values that are there wich begin with .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.8

so ti will return .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.8.1 as gauge:26

an snmpget on .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.8 won't return anything because there is not value for it. If you do an snmpget on .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.8.1 though it will return what you wanted.

so snmpwalk means take this OID and give me anything after that OID but it has to start with .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.109.1.1.1.1.8 and it has to have a value. It won;t return the OID;s wich do not have a value.

example: give me the speeds of all the interfaces

so snmpget means.. I want the value for this specific OID if it excists.

example: give me the speed of interface fastethernet 12
