Hello,

i'm searching on how to configure and setup SNMP for AVAYA 1608-I , i found only on 1600 series config doc that i would have to change the 46xxsettings.txt for SNMP strings (SNMP Community String : i dont know what to put there , ro , rw or read-only what exactly) and the other string for the SNMP server address , so anyoone who experience the SNMP with AVAYA IP PHONES can help me and lead me to the right way about right configuration

Best Regards

you'd put the IP and community the phones will answer to. So, if you made the SNMP address 2.2.2.2 and your community avaya123 and a phone pulled a 46xxsettings file with that information, then you should be able to go into the cli of server 2.2.2.2 and try a command like snmpwalk -v2c -c avaya123 3.3.3.3 and the phone at 3.3.3.3 should answer.

There's not too much useful stuff in there. The phones won't SNMP trap or alarm - they'll just allow themselves to be polled, and it's read-only - I've never been aware of any Avaya IP phone being writeable via SNMP - like send SNMP messages to log it in or anything like that. On a bigger network, I've helped build a thing that tracks each phone on each switchport and their phone number and stuff and it's pretty SNMP heavy. Still, we get/use very little from the phones. SNMP polling the data switch, at least an Avaya ERS, will get you LLDP neighbor info of firmware, serial number and model of the phone connected. I'd imagine any LLDP switch would.

What are you trying to do?

and where i declare the community avaya123 ? in CM ? or its just mutal between the 46xxsettings file and the server ?

its defined in the settings file the phone pulls. Past that, the phone can not even have a call server and you can still walk it
