I'm new to Sys Admin and have been tasked with getting SNMP to report on server status to a management server running OpenView NNM - i.e. finish the work that the consultant failed to complete.

I've been through the OpenView manuals, and SNMP -faq parts 1+2 but I'm still not clear on how to implement this. Are there any resources out there with pre-written snmp's that will monitor system performance?

Any assistence gratefully received. [sig][/sig]

Hello,

first 2 questions.

What OS.

What do you want to monitor

Consultants eh? I hope it wasn't one of my contracts!

I'm in for the same questions Thomas posted:

What OS do you want to monitor?

What do you want to monitor on your servers?

plus, do your servers have SNMP agents on them? Try doing an snmpwalk from the command line to test this- I think the syntax is : >snmpwalk [IP address or hostname] [community]

Good luck,

Martin
