From an old Dolch Sniffer manual... "Some networks reserve one bit -the RI bit- in the source address to indicate that the frame includes a field called the "source routing information" (RI) field. On networks that recognize the RI bit, an address really consists of only 47 bits. The 48th bit is used in the destination address to indicate "broadcast" or "multicast" and in the source address to indicate "RI present.""
I believe it mainly (but not exclusively) deals with Token Ring networks. This was the only RI information I could find...
