We are using NIA Sniffer Pro 4.0.1.2 on Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 5.

We have created a new entry in the Switch Configuration List for a Nortel BayStack 450. When we try to access the switch, we get an error that says "Failed to Load Switch configuration".

Anyone know why this is happening?

Try Sniffer Pro (portable) ver 4.5 I find the switch expert more stable.

I installed the new version and still get the same error.

Any thoughts?

When getting errors like this with Switch Expert, try tracing SNMP at the same time. See if the read and write community strings are correct by looking at the packets themselves. Also there are two modes of operation for Switch Control.

1. Connected to Sniffer>No

This means that you can just poll for switch stats but not set any spans by the Sniffer

2. Connected to Sniffer>Yes

This requires two network cards in the same machine. The card that is connected to the mirror port must have IP disabled. Also make sure that IP is bound only to the other NIC.

Also check which version of firmware is running in the switch and make sure it matches the version in the switch control manual.

Hi All

Yeah i too Tried All these stuffs even with latest version
of sniffer(4.6) but only for nortel baystack450 this error
appears , When i used sniffer to trace the error message
it was clear that sniffer was requesting (Get Next) a particular SNMP OID (Chassis type) for which baystack replied "nothing here like that " which i think creates this
problem

Hi,

The switch Expert support the Nortel Bay Stack 450.
However, the supported Baystack has the following configuration :

HW: RevB
FW: v1.04
SW: v1.0.1.0

Hi,

Some MIB entries on a device with only one instance of a value require a zero to be appended on the OID string.
Otherwise, the device will return an SNMP error message idicating the device as not found, and you would get the falied to load....error by Sniffer Pro.

A fix was developed. This fix ensures that the SNMP OID string used have the required supplemetary zeros necessary to correctly acces the Baystack 450. The fix is available in the form of a single file: Baystack450.swc, 19Kb.

You can download it from:

Regards,

Andre
